Just before the start of the summer holidays a few friends and me completed the Welsch 3 Peak Challenge. This means walking up the Cader Idris, Tryfan and Snowdon.
Waking up at 3:45 to be ready by 4 AM to pack the bus and began our 2 hour journey to the base of Cader. When we started the walk the weather was holding up nicely but as soon as we got to the top it started to poar down with rain. The only way down was a big Scree slope, it was fun. I was wearing my winter boots with a reinforcement at the heel and ankle support so I pretty much ski’d down in my boots. Once at the bottem we drove to Tryfan with a stop to get some Bacon Butties.
When we started walking up Tryfan it was still raining heavily. We made it a race, I was in lead. I eventually waited for the others to join me and together we reached the top of Tryfan. We didn’t spend much time there because the weather was getting worse and the wind was picking up. After scrambling down the rocks and over a big field we reached the minibus. Seeing the minibus was relieving, we were cold and drenched to our toes.
Once everyone made it to the bus and dried off we drove to Snowdon and started the walk up, again in the pouring rain. There were little streams and mini rivers that were made by the rain and by the time we were by the peak it seemed like they had turned into fully-fledged rivers. We reached the peak but didn’t stay there long because again, we were drenched. So we started our decent.
We got the bus stripped off our wet clothes and drove to Burgerking at 9:45, lucky for us nothing closes until 10 PM. We had a quick dinner, including some big fries and a Double Bacon Cheese Whopper.
In this video you will see the weather condisions and the top of every mountain. Every St Davids College House Captain held a speech.
I hope you enjoy the video.
