On a weekend we set off early to grab the last of the welsh
ice. The ice was okay but as the day progressed the ice got thinner and
thinner. As we climbed the first pitch we realized that water was running
underneath the ice. When we arrived at the belay we realized the second pitch
was not in condition as there were thin icicles dripping over us. This meant we
had to retreat out right onto a steep scree slope which led us to a small
icefall that looked in okay condition. So we climbed that to get a second
pitch. The belay wasn't great and the top of the second pitch as there were
just some thin icicles to wrap slings around. After abseiling down on a few
thin icicles we packed our bags and as the sun was setting we walked out of Ogwn
to the car. All in all an absolutely amazing day out.
As of yesterday training began again lots of climbing on
plastic as the weather is still poor but the hopes are high for good weather on
the weekend
