Day 1

Hey everyone! We're climbing this week in the French Pyrenees. Had a close scrape with a thunderstorm and lightening half way up a multi-pitch climb!! The poem below, tells all about it!

The Storm

We were only as high as the very first pitch, when the rain began to fall.
Should we retreat? or continue to climb was the decision that we had to call.

Tim was clipped in, when we first heard the din, of the thunder clap echoed around,
As we looked down the valley, we decided, perhaps, that we'd better get back to the ground!

A big flash of lightening was particularly frightening, the decision was obviously clear;
This belay's no place to be hanging around, we've gotta get right out of here!

So down we must go, before we get struck; help me sort out these tangles and then with some luck,
We'll escape down to safety; we'll not fry alive, as the lightening bolts shot down, through the rain that did drive,

And Tim looked rather worried as I made my way down; his usual big smile, replaced with a frown!
The Irishman 'Clarke' looked a little bit manic, and seemed quite amused by the Swiss Guide in panic!

One abseil down and we'd escaped from our post, before thunder and lightening reduced us to toast!
Back on the ground, we ran off feeling calmer, with stories to tell of our afternoon's drama!!

Day 2

Woo-hoo! I climbed a 7a today!! I practiced it a couple of times on top rope first, then after lunch I led it!!
Jason Clarke climbed it soon after with a bit of practice, then the teacher Kelly led it onsight!!!

The climb was called "derapage". we completed a multi pitch climb today without being struck by lightning!!!! Here's todays poem...

The 7a

Hip hop hooray! Today was our day!
It started with a visit to Intermarche.

Then off to some cliffs to see what to climb,
Hoping something would happen to add to this rhyme.

And did we succeed? Yes we did, yes indeed!
We climbed harder than ever, yes that's garenteed.

The routes were selected by Ian Lloyd-J,
And the target today was a tough 7a.

Timmy was first up, in this last month of May,
He said "this climb is so easy, it's like childs play".

"if Clarkey can climb this I'll openly say,
that I'll sell all my quickdraws tonight on e-bay"!

But the luck of the Irish saw jason climb high,
He was soon at the belay, and raised his fists to the sky,

Ye-ha! I've done it! I've climbed 7a,
"Tim, get out your laptop, log on right away!"

And still there was more as our climbers suceeded,
Fuelled by baugettes, it was all that they needed,

To climb climb after climb, clipping bolts all the day,
Today was a corker, I'm sure that you'd say,
That you feel like a hero, just like Mr Hay.

And that's all we've got time for , we'll write more next time,
But for now, its the end of this rock climbers rhyme.....
